More than two-thirds of homemade sunscreen recipes contain ingredients that don’t provide enough protection against ultraviolet radiation. To avoid skin cancer, the use of effective broadband sunscreen is critical to protect the skin from UV radiation.
Two researchers from The Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital found that homemade recipes found on common social media apps offered recipes that claimed sun protection factors ranging from 2 to 50. None offered the guarantee of full protection against UV rays.
